The brownies should be a snap. I never have chocolate squares at home but I do have cocoa, so I just make the substitution. May I suggest (how arrogant, right?) that you try making the caramel first (I make my own, by melting sugar. How easy, right?) You could take a foil-lined pan (a necessity), coat the bottom with your delicious caramel and a sprinkling of sea salt, then put the brownie batter on top, salt again and bake until almost done. I have NOT tried this, but now that I think of it, I’m going to.

Another thought: make a lot of caramel and layer it. Caramel, 1/2 the brownie batter, the rest of the caramel, the rest of the brownie batter. Bake until pretty much done. I don’t know if the caramel will sink to the bottom, though. Probably not but I don’t know because I haven’t ever done this.

There’s also the caramel with melted sugar and cream and a little corn syrup for elasticity. Either way, right?

I think 1/2 tsp salt to 1 c caramel would definitely make a statement.

I saw that you used something called black cocoa for your Oreo’s. I have never heard of this, but I think if you made the brownies with it, they would be sensational.

You have a good brownie recipe, right? Of course you do.

I’ll be watching this space for your results. If I get there first, I’ll post.

A scoop of coffee ice cream on top would pretty much be gilding the lily, right? Too much of a good thing is JUST RIGHT!

    Love your blog!

    • I’m intrigued by your caramel suggestion! And I’m drooling as well. Mmm…brownies. I’ve refrained from making rich, chocolate desserts lately because I feel as though I should be making “summery” desserts. But fall is right around the corner and these are first on my lest. Please do let me know how yours turn out!! Thanks for the idea!
